SAML IdP Test Basics

Documentation is being prepared. Please check back soon.

When To Use This Guide1

Use this guide when the remote system is an SP and you need to validate this environment as the IdP. The main focus is SP metadata import, SSO / SLO endpoints, and what the SP receives from fixed test users.

Four Core Items To Understand2

  • SP metadata: a bundle containing EntityID, ACS, certificates, and related settings.
  • SSO / SLO: the login and logout endpoints the SP needs.
  • Fixed test users: validation users with different attribute shapes.
  • NameID / attributes: the subject identifier and claims the SP consumes.

Typical IdP Test Flow3

1. Import the SP metadata1

Load the remote SP metadata from pasted XML, a metadata URL, or manual minimum-field input.

2. Register the IdP metadata on the remote side2

Give the remote SP this environment's IdP metadata so its EntityID and endpoints match.

3. Verify attributes with a fixed user3

Run an IdP-initiated login and inspect what the SP receives for NameID and attributes.

Common Checkpoints4

  • Does the SP ACS URL match the metadata?
  • Do different fixed users produce the expected attribute differences?
  • Are multi-value attributes preserved correctly?
  • Did the SP reload metadata after a change or reset?
